Secret Ingredient launched in Hong Kong almost five years ago and made gourmet chefs out of the most amateur cooks. After its “cooking by letters” system proved so popular, the company has now opened a sub business, NOSH by Secret Ingredient, which provides ready-to-eat healthy gourmet meals for takeaway or delivery.
NOSH’s motto is “Eat better. Live better.” It aims to change the food delivery scene in Hong Kong by offering healthy, balanced meals delivered within a 30-minute window from placing your order, suitable for all those times when you don’t have time to cook, but want to make sure you’re still eating clean.
There are about seven main course options to choose from on the NOSH website, all of which promise to contain no more than 550 calories per serving, as well as soups, sides, drinks and combos. All the recipes are put together by Secret Ingredient’s executive chef Kevin, made with quality ingredients sourced from all over the world.
Shortly after Netflix launched in Hong Kong, we ordered a NOSH delivery, thinking it would be the perfect way to spend a night in with a healthy meal, whilst watching Narcos – and it was! We tried two different dishes to get an idea of what NOSH was capable of, and both were delicious.
Although not particularly photogenic, the grass-fed beef burrito bowl was beautifully tender and full of flavour, with a generous serving of creamy guacamole on the side.
The roasted salmon with ponzu, soba noodles and bok choy was possibly even better, with crisp, fresh flavours and full of goodness. Both portions were more than big enough, so it was hard to believe that they contained 492 and 323 calories respectively.
One thing that some delivery companies get so wrong is packaging. One well-known delivery company even has an option on their website to opt out of cutlery and napkins, yet even when I select this box, I still get sent enough cutlery for a family of 10. NOSH by Secret Ingredient uses eco-friendly, biodegradable packaging, which is very refreshing to see. They also pair up with Feeding Hong Kong, to minimise food waste and help those in need.
NOSH also offers Bento Box options for the perfect lunch al desko, as well as bulk corporate orders for office meetings. With meals starting at $80 and delivery almost all over the city, I can easily see how NOSH will be just as successful as its parent company, maybe even more so, since with NOSH you don’t even have to lift a finger and pretend you can cook!
NOSH is offering a 25% discount for all first time orders – simply use the code “new105” when placing your order.
