If there’s one meal that Hong Kong loves even more than brunch, it’s afternoon tea and many of the hotels and restaurants will offer an indulgent afternoon tea set for that quiet time between lunch and dinner. Green at Hotel Icon is currently running a special Godiva afternoon tea set in celebration of spring, perfect for anyone who adores chocolate as much as I do!
Unlike Above & Beyond, high up on the 28th floor of this East Tsim Sha Tsui hotel, Green is located on the lobby level, in a bright and airy space beside one of the largest vertical gardens in Asia – hence its name, I suppose.
The Godiva afternoon tea set began, as any afternoon tea should, with freshly baked scones, served with clotted cream and jam. These were absolute perfection, still warm from the oven and wonderfully fluffy.
A rather modern looking tiered cake stand then appeared, laden with sweet and savoury delights. I had mentioned to the restaurant several days in advance that I am pregnant and therefore would need to skip items such as the salmon skewers and Parma ham with figs, in the hope that they would be replaced with an alternative. Instead, what they did, however, is simply swap these out for additional servings of the caprese skewers and mushroom vol-au-vents. Thankfully, these were delicious and I could happily have eaten a whole tray of the flaky, flavoursome vol-au-vents, but I must say I was a little surprised that there was no other alternative, given the advanced notice.
The top tier of the cake stand is where the magic happens. The only non-chocolate item here was a mango panna cotta, which was tasty enough, but, let’s face it, at a Godiva afternoon tea, all anyone really cares about is the chocolate! There were chocolate cupcakes, dark chocolate-dipped strawberries, chocolate pops and chocolate pralines, all of which were divine.
In case you haven’t had enough chocolate, at any point during your meal, you can take a walk to the front of the restaurant and indulge yourself in unlimited Godiva soft-serve ice cream! Enjoy it on its own, on top of a cupcake, or studded with crunchy chocolate balls. Naturally, I tried it all three ways and my favourite was with the balls.
Of course, the afternoon tea set comes with a coffee or a pot of tea, although we were half way through our food before we received our hot drinks…
This indulgent Godiva afternoon tea set is available until 30th April 2018, every day of the week from 3pm to 5pm, priced at HK$288 per person, or HK$546 for two people. If you love chocolate and can’t get enough soft-serve, you know where to go. Be sure to go early, particularly on weekends, to avoid the huge queue of chocolate lovers that inevitably forms.
