There was a time when our freezer pretty much only contained ice cream and we would religiously eat a scoop or two of Häagen-Dazs, Ben ‘n’ Jerry’s, or any other sugar-filled brand after every meal. We then became a little more health conscious and stopped buying ice cream, a fact which broke my heart. Along came Ice ‘n’ Lean, “the protein gelato”, which reassured me that, if you’re eating Ice ‘n’ Lean ice cream, then it’s OK to indulge in a scoop or two after every meal!
This ice cream is made with only organic ingredients, contains no preservatives, no chemicals, no gluten and zero refined sugar. It is packed full of organic, grass-fed whey protein (each serving contains 10g) and antioxidants, which means that this ice cream is actually good for you!
The ice cream comes in five flavours – salted caramel, superchoc, skinny latte, matcha and peanut butter, each with its own health-boosting properties. For example, the salted caramel (which is actually not made with caramel at all but with Peruvian super fruit, lucuma) helps regulate blood sugar and reduce inflammation, the matcha is rich in antioxidants and helps boost your metabolism, whilst the peanut butter is full of fibre, helps reduce cholesterol and is anti-ageing.
The below table compares two of Ice ‘n’ Lean’s ice creams with Häagen-Dazs and the stats are actually pretty scary!
There is one caveat here: since this is healthy ice cream, it doesn’t have the same creamy consistency you usually expect from ice cream, but that is to be expected, and it does still carry a delicious flavour.
My favourite is the peanut butter, which tastes amazing on its own, and even better with shavings of dark chocolate. The best combination I found, which you may have already seen on my Instagram feed, is the peanut butter ice cream topped with a crumbled Chris Crunch Cookie from Home Eat To Live – try it and see for yourself just how good it is!
Ice ‘n’ Lean also do these things called Paleo Pieces, which are like a healthy version of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups that may actually be even better than the ice cream! Made with almond butter, cashew butter and coconut oil, topped with 85% dark chocolate, these are again super healthy and super delicious.
If, like me, you have a soft spot for ice cream but the thought of having regular ice cream for breakfast makes you feel a little guilty, try Ice ‘n’ Lean. Seriously, I have been known to have a scoop or two of the matcha flavour for breakfast – it’s metabolism-boosting, so first thing in the morning is the best time to eat it, right?!
