Life in Hong Kong is a lot of fun. I think we all know that sometimes it can be a little bit too much fun, however, and we can easily slip into bad eating and drinking habits that affect our health. Even if you manage to avoid these bad habits, there’s no escaping the pollution in our city, as well as all kinds of bacteria that are generally in the air. Superfood Lab believes that we can balance this by introducing healthy habits into our diets.
Superfood Lab, as you can probably work out from the name, sells products that are full of superfoods. I.E. foods that are rich in nutrients, with high levels of antioxidants, omegas, minerals, phytochemicals and vitamins. The products include superfood powders, berries, nuts, seeds, sweeteners and seasonings.
I was recently sent a little care package from Superfood Lab to introduce me (and all my readers) to some of their super duper products. Included in my care package was a box of SuperGreen pH sachets, a box of SuperRed Antiox sachets and a packet of dried goldenberries, each of which is of course packed full of superfoods.
The SuperGreen pH is designed to balance out the body’s pH levels to make it more alkaline and detoxify it. Apparently many people’s bodies these days are far too acidic. This leads to bloating, fatigue and difficulty digesting food. A serving of SuperGreen pH contains 24 sources of greens (including cucumber, green apple, lime, kiwi, broccoli, wheatgrass, and spirulina), flaxseed meal and alkalising minerals, which all assist in regulating the body’s pH. Alkalising the body allows oxygen to be transported to our tissues, so that enzymes remain active and thus our bodies can react quicker and carry out essential functions.
It’s recommended you have between one and three servings of SuperGreen pH a day, either stirred or shaken into water or juice. I can’t say this was my favourite drink, but it wasn’t as bad as I had feared. The pineapple and green apple made it sweeter and more palatable, and I found it tasted less offensive when mixed with coconut water or by adding a splash of grapefruit juice.
The SuperRed Antiox, packed full of fruit and vegetables, including carrots, beetroot, berries, passion fruit and Echinacea, is designed to boost your body’s antioxidants (obvs), eliminate free radicals and rejuvenate the body. In a city where the fast-paced lifestyle can age people very quickly, this is very good news. Even just mixed with water, this made a delicious drink that I would happily enjoy every day for the rest of my life.
I had never heard of goldenberries before, but think these may now be my favourite berries. With their delicious sweet and sour flavour, these berries have been revered for centuries in South America for their immense health benefits. Not only are they full of antioxidants, vitamin A and vitamin C and very low in fat and sugar, but they supposedly help ward off disease and improve organ function. Perhaps most interestingly of all, they also help alleviate water retention and thus help you maintain a healthy weight. I’ll be snacking on goldenberries every day then!
